JOLENE PARKER

Jolene Parker Jolene Parker graduated from the Certificate of Makeup design and production in 2002. However she had been following her passion and fine tuning her skills for many years prior to completing her course. I asked Jolene why she decided to study at D&A, she explained she already had a hairdressing qualification and she had been an “instinctive” makeup artist from childhood! After fours years of working in the hairdressing industry she decided she wanted to spread her wings and venture overseas. Completing the certificate meant she offered a greater variety of skills.

This proved to be a great strategic move! Jolene was quickly snapped up by Red Earth Melbourne and progressed through the retail ranks until she was promoted to the position of Flagship Store Manager in Sydney 18 months later. From here Jolene became a part of the MAC team in their new Sydney concept store. “Event organising and workshops were my forte within my role as retail makeup artist with MAC”. It was during her time at MAC that Jolene worked on Australian Fashion Week on shows for the likes of Azolini Swimwear and One Teaspoon. In the same year she also worked on the Myer Fashion Show and the Myer Fashion Designer Awards.

“I have recently set up my company Style Counsel here in Christchurch. I am a “Creative”, specialising in Hair + Makeup Artistry, Styling + Art Direction. I have over 12 years experience to call on. I am currently focusing in the Music Industry working with Singer/Songwriters + Bands on their Image Creation and Conception for Live Performance, Photo Shoots and Music Videos. So if you are thinking it’s time to update your look and are feeling a little lost or have a shoot coming up... Call me! I can help! Check out www.stylecounselnz.com

Jolene has become quite business savvy regarding identifying the need to reach out and become immersed in the local Christchurch creative industry scene. Currently Jolene is in the throws of creating, installing and curating her show titled “Elemental” which is a celebration of music and creativity. The event is one night only on Thursday 15th of May from 6-9pm at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu.

Congratulations Jolene and we wish you all the best for your upcoming exhibition.
