CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Exhibiting artist, art critic, textile, artist, craft artist, exhibition technician,
art educator, set or costume designer for film or theatre.
ACADEMIC PATHWAYS:
Graduates have gone on to study: Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, Master
of Fine Arts; Graduate School of Education and Christchurch of Education, Teaching
Diploma; Auckland University of Technology, Bachelor of Visual Arts; Otago Polytechinc,
Bachelor of Fine Arts.

INDIVIDUAL COURSE COMPONENTS
Academic Year One - drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, print
media, three dimensional studies, fibre arts, critical studies, digital media,
art history.
Academic Year Two - painting, three dimensional studies, photography, print media,
moving image/time-based media, drawing digital media, theory and critism, art
history.
Academic Year Three - painting, three dimensional studies, photography, fibre arts, print media, moving image, theory, and criticism, art history, business
studies.
Academic Year Four - (WCAD) Bachelor of Fine Arts - studio research, public relations, marketing, art and design theory.
Academic Year One
Provides a solid grounding in arts theory and history, while developing a wide
range of practical skills through studio learning.
There is an option to exit after this year with a Certificate of Art (Advanced)
Academic Year Two
The Diploma is designed to further consolidate student’s skills and understanding of a fine arts practice.
There is an option to exit after this year with a Diploma of Art
Academic Year Three
The Diploma of Art (Advanced) allows students to develop an individual programme
in theory, research and studio practice. Self-directed study is negotiated through
a learning contract with assistance from fine arts tutors. In addition to this
self-directed study, students take classes in Art Theory and Criticism.
Students that successfully complete this year receive a Diploma of Art (Advanced)
FOLLOWING THE DIPLOMA OF ART (ADVANCED), STUDENTS HAVE THE OPTION TO ENTER THE BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS DEGREE THROUGH WHITECLIFFE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND DESIGN.
Academic Year Four
The Bachelor of Fine Arts year is delivered at D&A in Christchurch on behalf
of Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design. The course includes the study
of arts, marketing, promotion and business practices.
Students produce a body of work in their studio practice. They are required to demonstrate in-depth research and write two academic essays that locate their work into a contemporary theoretical context.
